In Cambodia, we are working to mobilize three indigenous communities to start collective farming by growing coffee and pepper on communal land using local resources and community strengths. They are planning to grow short term crops for local market demands, too. They started in 2015 after a long debate within the communities about if the idea was good. They started to work initially for 7ha of land with the hope that they can generate some revenues for themselves within a few years, but that depends on the producitbity and market prices. With the substaintially reduced external support, it is expected that they will have the revenues to be used for protecting their remaining land, improving solidarity, improving food security and addressing the climate change impacts. So far, they have been able to solicit moral support local authorities to improve the collective farm and also discuss other issues of common concerns. I believe that these combined efforts will bring in more positive results in the future. I will be pleased to hear any comments or suggestions!
